The services provided for this project include labour market analysis, establishing an industry advisory committee (IAC), developing industry-relevant competence-based curriculum (CBET), conducting lab and equipment procurement, administering train-the-trainer sessions for the Kenyan staff, identifying handbooks and other necessary and useful resources, and designing learning materials, such as lesson plans, etc.

The University of Cienfuegos (UCF), Cuba sought the assistance of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ to fulfill its mandate under the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education to create a “Centre of Excellence” in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology. 

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ provided professional development opportunities for UCF faculty and developed training programs ranging from job-entry level skills to advanced training for career development.  Funding from this project also made it possible for student and faculty exchanges for training and research activities between Cuba and Canada. 

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ and UCF:

• Established a Project Advisory Committee including ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳, UCF, and Industry Leaders.
• Developed a planning process model that was compatible in the local context.
• Initiated planning and development of the Centre of Excellence and the Technical Training Centre for classroom and laboratory, with a focus on Computer Based Training (CBT) and simulation software.
• Conducted a training needs analysis with local industry.
• Delivered gender equality information seminars and workshops.
• Conducted curriculum development workshops with UCF professors.
• Developed new course curriculum and technical training workshops.
• Conducted “Train the Trainer” workshops for UCF faculty.
• Conducted course evaluations.
• Developed framework for curriculum improvement and maintenance updates.
