MEDIA ADVISORY: Local Trailblazers Recognized for Transforming Lives and New Brunswick

ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Annual Alumni Recognition Awards Ceremony Returns with Four New Honourees

OCT. 15, 2024 – FREDERICTON, NB: New Brunswick Community College (ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳) will celebrate the exceptional achievements of four ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ alumni at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, during the 2024 Alumni Recognition Awards ceremony. Local trailblazers and community members, Adam Wilson, Kathleen LeBlanc, Daniel John Smith, and Rebecca McSheffery are set to receive 2024 ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Alumni Recognition Awards for their outstanding contributions to their communities and beyond.  For more information about the event and award recipients, visit Alumni Recognition Awards (nbcc.ca).

WHO:
Our 2024 ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Alumni Recognition Award recipients are: 

Adam WilsonClass of 1997, Electronics Engineering Technology

  • Adam is an Associate Teaching Professor and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNB. He’s a passionate educator, and his work in low-power embedded systems and biomedical instrumentation is advancing rehabilitation technology and prosthetics.

Kathleen ‘Kat’ LeBlancClass of 2021, Information Technology: Programmer Analyst

  • Kathleen is a Homelessness Information System Specialist at the Human Development Council. She has transformed homelessness data management in New Brunswick and inspired similar efforts across the country.

Daniel John SmithClass of 2014, Justice Studies: Police Foundations (formerly known as Police Foundations)

  • Daniel is a dedicated advocate for Indigenous rights and currently serves as a Project Officer for Indigenous Initiatives in the Atlantic Region, for Correctional Service Canada, where he is making an impactful difference.

Rebecca McSheffery (Friend of New Brunswick 2024 award recipient) – Class of 2015, Business Administration: Marketing

  • Rebecca is the Director of Innovation & NouLAB at the Pond-Deshpande Centre and the Founder of She Consults. Her work focuses on creating employment pathways for underrepresented groups and fostering community innovation.

WHAT:
ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳’s Alumni Recognition Awards celebrates the achievements and contributions of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ graduates who are truly transforming lives and communities. Nominations are open year-round, with annual selections being made every Spring.

Each year, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ selects four award recipients, including one recipient to receive the ‘Friend of New Brunswick Award’ in addition to their Alumni Recognition Award.
